  • Greats of US literature pressed into diplomatic service

I first became aware of the "Big Read" program at the Massanutten Regional Library in Harrisonburg, VA, where I was given a copy of To Kill A Mockingbird for free.   I didn't know they'd gone international, though.  I think it's pretty amazing, though.  I'll try to pick up a copy of this Egyptian book, and of course everyone else should too.

I purchased a YAKIMA bike rack for my car the other week.  I'm happy with it - feeling much more like I'm ready to travel now.  Though I still have to install my CB radio.  I'll get around to it.  Either way, I'm feeling ready for the road again, whether or not I'm actually prepared to travel yet.  Oh well.

  • hmm . . . the unrestrained spread of knowledge . . . nope, sounds dangerous.

it seems that i'm just going to post something i find interesting every day.  so, here's today's link.  i haven't joined this service yet, so i can't give a personal review or recommendation.  but it seems neat.  there are a few other sites like this, but The Guardian recommends this one, since it's international.  but the idea is amazing to me.  it will be difficult to get over my own pack-rattish desire to stockpile every book i've ever read even when i know i may not read them again.  needless to say, my favorites won't find their way around the world until i've got enough money to fund that sort of generosity.
